COURSE OVERVIEW

Investment banking deals primarily with raising money for companies, governments, and other entities. Investment banking activities include underwriting new debt and equity securities for all types of corporations.

Investment banking is a special segment of banking operation that helps individuals or organisations raise capital and provide financial consultancy services to them. They act as intermediaries between security issuers and investors and help new firms to go public.

An investment is an asset or item acquired with the goal of generating income or appreciation. Appreciation refers to an increase in the value of an asset over time. When an individual purchases a good as an investment, the intent is not to consume the good but rather to use it in the future to create wealth.

Investment banking grows a company, while corporate finance manages a company. A corporate finance professional deals with day-to-day financial operations and handles short- and long-term business goals. An investment banker focuses on raising capital.
